Putting ideas into practice

Live data from the Council Chamber saves us money.

I’ve written before about the Cubesensors, and after some playing around with them, we’ve finally put them into an active space to help us manage our energy use.

With Little Bulb Theatre’s Antarctica now well under way, it makes sense that the audience of families and their smallest members should only see and hear the wonder of such a cold place, but not actually experience it through shivering.

A Cubesensor allows us to monitor the temperature at any moment, and target heating only when it’s needed. Amusingly, some of the messages thrown up the app are rather appropriate for the show…

You can clearly see the heating going on at 10am when we start to prep the space, and then the two shows at 10:30am and 1:30pm. Above, we have graphs tracking the room temperature and the build-up in carbon dioxide as a full audience gasps in wonder.

The next two graphs show the technical side of the production as lights and sound are also recorded by the same device.

Antarctica runs until 4th January 2015, and you can buy tickets here.
