UNCONDITIONAL: Preview

Unconditional is about fighting the fight that needs to be fought. It’s about slaying the monsters and standing your ground.

Ahead of the preview of Unconditional, we caught up with Josie from This Egg to find out more about the show.

Josie: Me and my mum are both theatre makers. After years of joking around about making a show together, abut 2 and a half years ago, we began actually doing it…

We have been developing the show in small snatches of time between other projects. We have developed the show at Battersea Arts Centre, Cambridge Junction and HOME in Manchester. We began inviting lots of different people in to work with us. In the last few months, we started working with my dad (also a theatre maker) so it’s become a bit of a family affair, alongside adoptive John Biddle (who is making an original sound score) and Lucy Adams (who is doing the lighting design).

Where there are such extremities in the fight for equality for men and women, it can be difficult to know where to stand. UNCONDITIONAL has been motivated by the polarisation of voices in the debate, and the fear of further division they could cause. The world is in turmoil, and there are growing concerns from both generations, mine and my mum’s.

We wonder what a world might look like that a mother would be happy to set her daughter off into.

UNCONDITIONAL: Preview runs at Battersea Arts Centre 3 – 5 July 2018.
